Janet Gallagher
Clinical Psychologist
BSc (Psych & HRM), Hons. MPsych (Clinical).

Experience

Janet is a clinical psychologist with over 15 years experience working in private practice and in children and family services. Janet started her psychology career working with at risk children and adolescents, focusing on childhood trauma and abuse and has gone on to focus her work with adults, predominantly adults that experienced trauma during their younger years.

Janet uses a number of therapuetic modalities dependant upon the needs of the individual. Janet is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Schema Therapy. She would describe herself as a truely attachment focused therapist.

Janet is also a board approved supervisor and provides clinical supervision to early career psychologists and clinical psychology registrars.

Qualifications

Janet commenced her Bachelor of Psychology at Murdoch University, and completed her Honours in Psychology with Human Resource Management at Middlesex University (UK & UAE). She completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology at Edith Cowan University in Perth.

Finesse Psychology provides support for a wide range of presenting issues. We are currently accepting new referrals for adolescent and adult clients:

  • Grandparent / kinship care

Children and Adolescents: We are not currently accepting new referrals for adolescents or children:

  • Depression and low mood

  • Anxiety / OCD

  • Attachment difficulties

Fees and rebates

Consultation fees

The fee currently recommended by the Australian Psychological Society is $311 for a 45 - 60min consultation. The appointment fee for a 50+ minute consultation at Finesse Psychology is $300. Family and couples consultations are $320.

Extended consultations are available if required.

If you are on a low income (eg unemployed, health care card) please ask about the possibility of a reduced rate.

Cancellation fee

Non-attendance at a scheduled appointment without providing a minimum of 24 hours notice will attract a $150 cancellation fee.

Payment terms

Full payment of the consultation fee is required at the completion of each appointment. Payment can be made via credit card with your authorisation.

Referrals / rebates

You are welcome to see a Clinical Psychologist without a referral (privately) however if you would like to claim the medicare rebate then you need to be referred by your General Practitioner under Medicare’s Better Access scheme otherwise known as a Mental Health Care Plan. If you provide this at the initial session, you can claim $141.85 rebate and able to attend up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.

Consultation fees can also be claimed through some private health care funds ‘extras’ cover. Your provider can advise you of whether you are eligible for a rebate for clinical psychology services and the rebate amount.
